Grieve, Africa, Grieve
For the child snatched from your bosom
By another’s inherited hunger
For your mountains, rivers, forests
the very earth that makes you, You.

Grieve, Africa, Grieve
For all the congealed blood that’s
choked innovation for hundreds of years
On a landmass where Humans arose
Innovating their way around
This magnificent swirling Earth
suspended in awesome No-thingness.

Breathe, Africa, Breathe
You are here. Your children are here.
To sing your praises, while peering into their own souls
So, they can hear your call for each one, and each other.
You great ancestor of all Vanhu/Abantu/
Homo sapiens/Humans

Sing, Africa, Sing!
Your children live
Even when scattered to the winds
By the cruelty of another’s insatiable hunger
For your gifts of earth, air, water, and fire
Or your children scattered by their own kin’s cruelty
While trying to awaken the body
To the awesomeness of the soul suspended in the ethers.

Breathe, Africa, Breathe
You live!
Sing, Africa, Sing
You are the hope of us all.
