In 1993, NASA trained one of its eyes in the sky on Saturn’s orbit around the Sun as seen by us, on this blue-green dot of life. Saturn, also cradled in the palm of our Sun as we all float in the arms of the flaming glory that is our Milky Way Galaxy. Sideways of 1993 was 1970. Six magnificent beings of the Orcinus orca kind were Stolen from their family, kin, and home, by capitalist whiteness for greed disguised as so-called education for the rest of us. Only Sk’aliCh’elh-tenaut, Tokitae, Lolita, to those who care, survives in captivity, a Being whose body and soul was recaptured millions of times more by eyes, and cameras at some Seaquarium. Saturn returns bearing an Orca’s grief and the discredited soul(s) of life forms beyond the human. i don’t know about you, but i have not been godly in these matters in all these years Saturn’s been making its ringed orbit around the Sun. i have been to a zoo or two a colonizer, indeed, entitled to gawk at fellow beings penned up in zoos, doing tricks, and such, for the killer human need for fun, money, and you name it, at the expense of another. my crocodile tears welling up and overflowing do not mean a thing because i, like my kind, the human, live entitled to this whole planet, trading our Hunhu/Ubuntu, our creatureliness, for profit and pleasure minus awakening. Haven’t we humans become the killer whales on this planet, projecting and hiding our murderous behaviors while petting ourselves on the back for rescuing what we destroy(ed) in the first place? The white savior syndrome has poisoned this planet with its colonizing gaze and rapacious mind. Yesterday the white savior gaze only saw some human rights for the enslaved and the colonized, fellow humans, the Others that white ways and white means almost killed off, in the name of civilization. Saving the savage Natives from the wild Earth, no? What will we do, between now and when Saturn returns to the same spot in the sky in 2051? Will Saturn find our planet overrun with zoos, aquariums, and private game reserves, with us humans saving all other creatures from the Earth itself? Will we be saving fish from drowning? or Lions from the savannah? whitening the Earth to forget an Orca’s grief?!

One response to “Saturn’s Return with an Orca’s Grief”
[…] Amazing news caught my reluctant eye on Friday, March 31, 2023, as I searched for stories of my human tribe the kind attentive to the We—of the planet, not just for humans. And from the corner of my left eye, I saw the image of the zebra of the ocean, Orcinus orca. Oh, it is Sk’aliCh’elh-tenaut, Tokitae, Lolita She is going home! Finally!? Imagine any human you know, born between 1966 and 1970 taken from their family, paraded in a zoo for fifty-some years in the name of education and entertainment. I know the humiliation and shame. I am an African. I carry a continental memory of being zoo displays, A curiosity. Non-white. Savage. Like the Earth. I am no angel to be sure. Having visited, one too many a zoo and aquarium, here and there. I still cringe with SHAME. How could I? How could I? How could I? I have no words But hope that someday, we humans shall have the decency to feel ashamed that we consume the Earth alive. For now, behold this amazing zebra of the ocean, Sk’aliCh’elh-tenaut, Tokitae, Lolita, Is readying to go home! My sibling from another mother and species, on this beloved planet we all call home. May the ocean waters and your kin receive you, With sorrowful joy for sure, but joy all the same. I am rooting for you, Orca sister. Saturn’s Mission is accomplished. […]
